Jonathan D. Schuman

Executive Vice President, Head of Global Business Development

Jonathan Schuman joined Matthews International Capital Management, LLC in 2010 as an Executive Vice President. He is responsible for leading the firm’s international business development strategy, developing relationships with key distribution partners and directing the firm’s global sales efforts. Prior to joining the firm, Jonathan was a Managing Director at PineBridge Investments (formerly AIG Investments) in Tokyo, responsible for institutional sales and client relations, product development, marketing and RFP functions for AIG’s third-party investment management business in Japan. He also served as Assistant General Counsel for Legal and Government Affairs for AIG Companies, Japan and Korea. Jonathan earned a J.D. from Harvard Law School, a M.A.L.D from The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy and a B.A. in Asian Studies from Williams College. He has served as Co-Chair of the Financial Services Committee at the American Chamber of Commerce in Japan, and is fluent in Japanese.


Jodi L. Borkowitz, CFA, CFP

Senior Vice President, Client Services

Jodi Borkowitz joined Matthews International Capital Management, LLC in 2006 as a Senior Vice President and leads the firm’s sales and client service efforts. Prior to joining Matthews, Jodi was a Partner and Director of sales & marketing with Advisor Partners, LLC, a boutique separate account manager. From 1992 to 2004, she served as a sales and relationship management executive at JPMorgan Asset Management in New York and San Francisco, and was a key contributor in building the organization's separate account, mutual fund and sub-advisory businesses. Jodi received a B.A. with honors in Mathematics and Economics from Northwestern University.


James E. Campion

Senior Vice President, Head of Asia Business Development

James Campion joined Matthews International Capital Management, LLC in 2010 as a Senior Vice President and leads the firm’s business development efforts in Asia. Most recently, James was Head of Asia Distribution for Threadneedle Portfolio Services in Hong Kong, responsible for setting up its Hong Kong office and developing the firm’s Asia distribution strategy. Prior to this, he served as Allianz Global Investor’s Head of Mutual Funds for the Asia Pacific region and was a Managing Director for New Star International. From 1998 to 2004, James also held several positions with Schroder Investment Management (Hong Kong) Limited, including Regional Head of Mutual Funds, Asia ex Japan.


Jennifer B. Schatz

Senior Vice President, Marketing

Jennifer Schatz joined Matthews International Capital Management, LLC in 2007 as a Senior Vice President responsible for the firm’s marketing activities, brand building efforts and shareholder services. Most recently, she worked with the Ariel Mutual Funds where she served as Vice President of mutual fund marketing. Prior to this, Jennifer was one of the founding principals in the start-up of randmcnally.com, the online business unit of Rand McNally. She also spent over eight years at Accenture and held a variety of marketing and strategic planning roles, including an overseas assignment in Hong Kong as a member of the team that developed the firm’s Greater China market strategy. Jennifer received her B.S. in Business Management and Marketing from Cornell University.


Martin Curiel, CFA

Vice President, Client Services

Martin Curiel joined Matthews International Capital Management, LLC in 2012 as a Vice President responsible for client service and sales efforts among institutional investors, including endowments, foundations, family offices and consultants. Prior to joining Matthews in 2012, Martin was a Partner and Director of marketing and client services with Denali Advisors, a quantitative-based investment firm. From 2004 to 2007, he was a management consultant at Deloitte, advising Fortune 500 companies on various strategic and operational initiatives. Martin received a B.S. in Civil Engineering from California Polytechnic State University, and earned an M.B.A from Harvard Business School. He is also founder of an educational non-profit focused on helping U.S. migrant farm workers, The Rising Farmworker Dream Fund.


Daniel W. Duncan, CIMA

Vice President, Client Services

Daniel Duncan joined Matthews International Capital Management, LLC in 2007 as a Vice President and is responsible for sales and client service efforts with financial advisors within selected financial intermediaries. Prior to joining Matthews, Dan was an Account Specialist at Janus Capital Group, focusing on the firm’s sales efforts through financial intermediaries. Previously, he was a Financial Consultant with CUNA Mutual Group and started his investment career as a Financial Advisor with Morgan Stanley. Dan received a B.S. in Hospitality Management from Texas Tech University and an International M.B.A. from the University of Denver’s Daniels College of Business.


Jeremy Lehrer, CFA, CPWA

Vice President, Client Services

Jeremy Lehrer joined Matthews International Capital Management, LLC in July 2009 as a Vice President and is responsible for sales and client service efforts among independent Registered Investment Advisors (RIAs). Prior to joining Matthews, Jeremy spent seven years at Charles Schwab, where he worked with Alternative Investments and Managed Accounts. From 1999 to 2002, he was a Research Director at AdvisorTech, where he consulted with Japanese, Korean and German financial advisors. Jeremy began his career analyzing Japanese small-cap stocks and emerging market debt. He received a B.A. in Political Science & Asian Studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and a Masters of Pacific International Affairs in Investments and Japanese Studies from the University of California San Diego. Jeremy has also spent time studying and working in Japan, and is proficient in Japanese.


Kate Hitchings

Global Client Relationship Manager

Kate Hitchings joined Matthews International Capital Management, LLC in 2011 as Global Client Relationship Manager. She manages relationships with Matthews’ clients in Europe and Latin America. Prior to joining Matthews, Kate was a Business Development Executive with AllianceBernstein in London, where she was responsible for business development opportunities and client management, primarily within the U.K. Institutional market. She began her tenure with AllianceBernstein in 2005, initially working with private clients, endowments and foundations out of its Boston-based wealth management office. Kate received a B.A. in English with a minor in Psychology from Dartmouth College, and is a proficient Spanish speaker.


Christian O. Halvorsen

Vice President, Client Services

Christian Halvorsen is a Vice President at Matthews International Capital Management, LLC, responsible for sales and client service efforts with independent Registered Investment Advisors (RIAs). Prior to joining Matthews in 2001, Christian was an Internal Wholesaler for Franklin Templeton Investments. Previously, he worked for Beijing Nokia Mobile Telecommunications Company in China. Christian received a B.A. in Communications and a minor in Chinese Studies from the University of California, San Diego. He is proficient in Mandarin.


Angela Wang

Client Services Associate

Angela Wang joined Matthews International Capital Management, LLC in 2011 as a Client Services Associate and is responsible for client service efforts with advisors and other financial intermediaries. After receiving an M.B.A in Finance from Columbia University in 2010, Angela served as an internal consultant with Gap Inc.’s Corporate Real Estate Analytics group, advising on the brands’ international store expansion strategy, particularly in China. From 2005 to 2008, Angela held various roles with Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, most recently as a Business Advisor to high net-worth individuals and corporate clients, in the wealth management and corporate finance capacities. Angela received a B.A. in Mathematics from Grinnell College, and is fluent in Mandarin and proficient in Cantonese.


Sang Yoo

Client Services Associate

Sang Yoo joined Matthews International Capital Management, LLC in 2011 as a Client Services Associate and is responsible for client service efforts with advisors and other financial intermediaries. Prior to joining Matthews, Sang was an Account Manager at American Fidelity Assurance Company from 2009 to 2011. He began his career as a Financial Services Specialist with Independent Capital Management in Los Angeles in 2008 after graduating from Pepperdine University with a B.S. in International Business. Sang speaks Korean fluently.


Taryn O'Neill

Client Marketing Associate

Taryn O’Neill joined Matthews International Capital Management, LLC in 2010 as a Client Marketing Associate and is responsible for managing the distribution of Matthews’ product information and marketing materials to clients. Prior to joining Matthews, Taryn was a Client Service Associate at Lehman Brothers Inc., providing client servicing to the firm’s Absolute Return Strategies investors. Previously, she was an Investor Relations Team Supervisor with BNY Alternative Investment Services. Taryn received a B.A. in American Studies from Hamilton College.


Hedia Bozorghadad

Client Marketing Specialist

Hedia Bozorghadad joined Matthews International Capital Management, LLC in 2011 as a Client Marketing Specialist and is responsible for supporting the distribution of Matthews’ product information and marketing materials to clients. Prior to joining Matthews, Hedia was a RFP Associate at Fisher Investments. Previously, she was a Credit Manager with Wells Fargo Financial. Hedia received a B.A. in Business Administration with a concentration in Business Economics from Seattle University. Hedia is fluent in Farsi.
