President and Global Chief Investment Officer
Yu-Ming Wang is President and Global Chief Investment Officer at Matthews Asia, responsible for the strategic vision and leadership of the investment team. Prior to joining Matthews Asia in 2020, Yu-Ming was the Deputy President and Global Chief Investment Officer at Nikko Asset Management, responsible for strategic development and oversight of Nikko's global investment team. Previously, Yu-Ming was Head of Fixed Income Asia at Manulife Asset Management (Hong Kong) Ltd. He also worked at Wachovia Bank in senior roles in the capital markets division in New York, before moving to Hong Kong to head the global markets business for the Asian region. Yu-Ming received his MBA from New York University Stern School of Business, and received a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is fluent in Mandarin.
Robert J. Horrocks, PhD*
Chief Investment Officer and Portfolio Manager
Robert Horrocks is Chief Investment Officer and Portfolio Manager at Matthews Asia and has been a Matthews Asia Funds Trustee since 2018. He manages the firm's Asian Growth and Income Strategy and co-manages the Asia Dividend and Asia ex Japan Dividend Strategies. As Chief Investment Officer, Robert oversees the firm's investment process and investment professionals and sets the research agenda for the investment team. Before joining Matthews Asia in 2008, Robert was Head of Research at Mirae Asset Management in Hong Kong. From 2003 to 2006, Robert served as Chief Investment Officer for Everbright Pramerica in China, establishing its quantitative investment process. He started his career as a Research Analyst with WI Carr Securities in Hong Kong before moving on to spend eight years working in several different Asian jurisdictions for Schroders, including stints as Country General Manager in Taiwan, Deputy Chief Investment Officer in Korea and Designated Chief Investment Officer in Shanghai. Robert earned his PhD in Chinese Economic History from Leeds University in the United Kingdom, and is fluent in Mandarin.
Winnie Chwang is a Portfolio Manager at Matthews Asia and co-manages the firm’s China and Asia ESG Strategies. She joined the firm in 2004 and has built her investment career at the firm. Winnie earned an MBA from the Haas School of Business and received her B.A. in Economics with a minor in Business Administration from the University of California, Berkeley. She is fluent in Mandarin and conversational in Cantonese.
Head of Portfolio Strategy
David Dali is Head of Portfolio Strategy at Matthews Asia. In his role with the investment team, David serves as a macro thought leader, and also serves as a proxy for Portfolio Managers, providing individual portfolio insights and analytics to clients. Prior to joining Matthews Asia in 2015, he was a Portfolio Strategist for BlackRock with the firm's Multi-Asset Emerging Markets Allocation Fund. David has more than 25 years of investment experience in broad emerging markets, with the majority of his career spent as a trader and portfolio manager allocating across equity, fixed income, currencies and derivatives within both long-only and long-short strategies. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Commerce from Santa Clara University.
Raymond Z. Deng
Raymond Deng is a Portfolio Manager at Matthews Asia, and co-manages the firm's Pacific Tiger Strategy. Prior to joining the firm in 2014, Raymond earned an MBA from The University of Chicago Booth School of Business. From 2008 to 2012, he worked at Booz & Company, most recently as a Senior Consultant responsible for developing corporate growth strategies, financial analysis and modeling and client management. Raymond received a B.S. in Industrial Engineering from Tsinghua University in Beijing. He is fluent in Mandarin.
Richard H. Gao
Research Principal, China
Richard Gao is a Research Principal focused on Chinese markets at Matthews Asia. In this role, Richard works closely with the investment team and helps set the research agenda and research process related to China. Prior to this role, Richard was a Portfolio Manager at Matthews Asia. Before joining the firm in 1997, he began his career at the Bank of China, first as a loan officer, then as a FOREX Trader in the Treasury Department, and served as an Assistant Manager at the Bank of China, where he was in charge of FOREX trading for import/export companies. Richard received a B.A. in Literature from Guangdong University of Foreign Studies and an MBA in International Business from the Dominican University of California. He is fluent in Mandarin, Cantonese and Shanghainese.
Robert Harvey, CFA
Robert Harvey is a Portfolio Manager at Matthews Asia and manages the firm's Emerging Asia Strategy. Prior to joining Matthews Asia in 2012, he was a Senior Portfolio Manager at PXP Vietnam Asset Management from 2009 to 2012, where he focused on Vietnamese equities. Previously, he was a Portfolio Manager on the Global Emerging Markets team at F&C Asset Management in London from 2003 to 2009. Robert started his investment career in 1994 as an Assistant Equity Portfolio Manager with the Standard Bank of South Africa's asset management division. He received a Bachelor of Commerce in Accountancy and Commercial Law from Rhodes University in South Africa and a Bachelor of Accounting Science in Advanced Management Accounting, Taxation and Auditing at the University of South Africa.
Tiffany Hsiao, CFA*
Tiffany Hsiao is a Portfolio Manager at Matthews Asia. She manages the firm's China Small Companies and Asia Small Companies Strategies and co-manages the Asia Innovators Strategies. Prior to joining the firm in 2014, she was a Vice President at Goldman Sachs Investment Partners in Hong Kong and Tokyo from 2007 to 2013, responsible for Asia Pacific investments with an emphasis on equities in China. Previously, she spent six years at Franklin Templeton Investments, where she managed the firm's global communications fund. Tiffany earned her Master of Science and Information Technology from Carnegie Mellon University and received a B.A. in Economics from the University of California, Berkeley. She is fluent in Mandarin and Taiwanese, and conversational in Cantonese.
Taizo Ishida is a Portfolio Manager at Matthews Asia. He manages the firm's Asia Growth, Emerging Asia, and Japan Strategies. Prior to joining Matthews Asia in 2006, Taizo spent six years on the global and international teams at Wellington Management Company as a Vice President and Portfolio Manager. From 1997 to 2000, he was a Senior Securities Analyst and a member of the international investment team at USAA Investment Management Company. From 1990 to 1997, he was a Principal and Senior Research Analyst at Sanford Bernstein & Co. Prior to beginning his investment career at Yamaichi International (America), Inc. as a Research Analyst, he spent two years in Dhaka, Bangladesh as a Program Officer with the United Nations Development Program. Taizo received a B.A. in Social Science from International Christian University in Tokyo and an M.A. in International Relations from The City College of New York. He is fluent in Japanese.
YuanYuan Ji is a Portfolio Manager at Matthews Asia and co-manages the firm's China Small Companies Strategy. Before joining the firm in 2016, she was an Executive Director, Head of China Small Cap at Haitong International Securities Group in Hong Kong. Prior to that experience, from 2009 to 2011, she held a variety of positions in the financial and consulting industries, including at British American Tobacco, PricewaterhouseCoopers and McKinsey & Company. YuanYuan received a Bachelor of Economics and Finance degree from The University of Hong Kong. She is fluent in Mandarin, Cantonese and Shanghainese.
Teresa Kong, CFA*
Teresa Kong is a Portfolio Manager at Matthews Asia and manages the firm’s Asia Total Return Bond and Asia Credit Opportunities Strategies. Prior to joining Matthews Asia in 2010, she was Head of Emerging Market Investments at Barclays Global Investors, now known as BlackRock, and responsible for managing the firm’s investment strategies in Emerging Asia, Eastern Europe, Africa and Latin America. She developed and managed strategies spanning absolute return, active long-only and exchange-traded funds. In addition to founding the Fixed Income Emerging Markets Group at BlackRock, she was also Senior Portfolio Manager and Credit Strategist on the Fixed Income credit team. Previously, Teresa was a Senior Securities Analyst in the High Yield Group with Oppenheimer Funds, and began her career with J.P. Morgan Securities Inc., where she worked in the Structured Products Group and Latin America Capital Markets Group. She received both a B.A. in Economics and Political Science and an M.A. in International Development Policies from Stanford University. She speaks Cantonese fluently and is conversational in Mandarin.
John Paul Lech
John Paul Lech is a Portfolio Manager at Matthews Asia and manages the firm's Emerging Markets Equity Strategy and co-manages the firm's Asian Growth and Income Strategy. Prior to joining the firm in 2018, he spent most of his 10 years at OppenheimerFunds (subsequently acquire by Invesco) as an Analyst and Portfolio Manager on a diversified emerging market equity strategy. John Paul started his career as an Analyst and Associate at Citigroup Global Markets, Inc. John Paul earned both an M.A. and a B.S.F.S from the Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University. He is fluent in Spanish and conversational in French and Portuguese.
Elli Lee is a Portfolio Manager at Matthews Asia, and co-manages the firm's Korea Strategy. Prior to joining the firm as a Research Analyst in 2016, Elli worked at Bank of America Merrill Lynch for 10 years, most recently in Korean Equity Sales and previously as an Equity Research Analyst covering South Korea's engineering, construction, steel and education sectors. From 2003 to 2005, Elli was an Investor Relations Specialist at Hana Financial Group in Seoul. She received a B.A. in Economics from Bates College, and is fluent in Korean.

S. Joyce Li is a Portfolio Manager at Matthews Asia and co-manages the firm's China Dividend, Asia ex Japan Dividend, and Asia Dividend Strategies. Prior to joining the firm in 2016, she was a Portfolio Manager and Principal at Marvin & Palmer Associates, where she co-managed equity investments in the Asia Pacific markets between 2007 and 2016. Joyce started her investment career as a Senior Investment Associate at Wilmington Trust. Joyce received an MBA with honors from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and a M.S. in Computer Science from the University of Virginia. She is fluent in Mandarin and Cantonese.
Kenneth Lowe, CFA
Kenneth Lowe is a Portfolio Manager at Matthews Asia and manages the firm's Asian Growth and Income Strategy. Andrew Mattock is a Portfolio Manager at Matthews Asia and manages the firm’s China Strategy. Prior to joining the firm in 2015, he was a Fund Manager at Henderson Global Investors for 15 years, first in London and then in Singapore, managing Asia Pacific equities. Asset Management India, most recently as a Senior Research Analyst. Previously,
he was with Deutsche Asset & Wealth Management New York, from 2009 to 2011,
researching U.S. and European stocks in the industrials and materials sectors.
Peeyush began his career in 2003 with Scot Forge as an Industrial Engineer, and
was responsible for implementing Lean Manufacturing systems on the production
shop floor. Peeyush earned his M.B.A from The University of Chicago Booth
School of Business. He received a Master of Science in Industrial Engineering
from The Ohio State University and received a Bachelor of Technology in
Metallurgical Engineering from The Indian Institute of Technology Madras. He is

Jeremy Murden, CAIA
Jeremy Murden is a Portfolio Strategist at Matthews Asia. In his role with the investment team, Jeremy serves as a proxy to portfolio managers and provides macro thought leadership and individual portfolio insights to clients. Prior to joining Matthews Asia in 2018, Jeremy spent 10 years as a Senior Investment Manager Analyst and Investment Committee Member at William Blair, leading external equity manager coverage. He started his career in distribution as a Product Specialist at Claymore Securities, now known as Guggenheim Funds. Jeremy earned his MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and a Bachelor of Science in Commerce from DePaul University. Andy Rothman is an Investment Strategist at Matthews Asia. He is principally responsible for developing research focused on China’s ongoing economic and political developments while also complementing the broader investment team with in-depth analysis on Asia. In addition, Andy plays a key role in communicating to clients and the media the firm’s perspectives and latest insights into China and the greater Asia region. Prior to joining Matthews Asia in 2014, Andy spent 14 years as CLSA’s China macroeconomic strategist where he conducted analysis into China and delivered his insights to their clients. Previously, Andy spent 17 years in the U.S. Foreign Service, with a diplomatic career focused on China, including as head of the macroeconomics and domestic policy office of the U.S. Embassy in Beijing. In total, Andy has lived and worked in China for more than 20 years. He earned an M.A. in public administration from the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs and a B.A. from Colgate University. He is a proficient Mandarin speaker.
Tiffany Shi, CFA, CAIA
Tiffany Shi is a Portfolio Strategist at Matthews Asia. In her role with the investment team, Tiffany serves as a proxy for portfolio managers and provides customized portfolio insights and solutions to clients. She also helps the team with product positioning and analytics. Prior to joining Matthews Asia in 2014, Tiffany worked on the U.S. Institutional Advisory and Sales team with J.P Morgan Investment Management, focusing on clients and prospects across both defined contribution and defined benefit segments. Prior to that, she was an investment analyst on the Manager Research team of the J.P. Morgan Private Bank in New York covering fixed income, liquid alternatives, Emerging Market and Asia managers, including Matthews Asia. Tiffany earned a B.A. in Economics and a B.S. in Supply Chain Management and Information Systems from Pennsylvania State University, Smeal College of Business. She is fluent in Mandarin, Cantonese and Shanghainese.
Sharat Shroff, CFA*
Sharat Shroff is a Portfolio Manager at Matthews Asia and manages the firm's Pacific Tiger Strategy and co-manages the India Strategy. Prior to joining the firm in 2005 as a Research Analyst, Sharat worked in the San Francisco and Hong Kong offices of Morgan Stanley as an Equity Research Associate. Sharat received a Bachelor of Technology from the Institute of Technology in Varanasi, India and an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management, in Calcutta, India. He is fluent in Hindi and Bengali.
Inbok Song is a Portfolio Manager at Matthews Asia and co-manages the firm's Pacific Tiger Strategy. Prior to rejoining the firm in 2019, Inbok spent three years at Seafarer Capital Partners as a portfolio manager, the firm's Director of Research and chief data scientist. Previously she was at Thornburg Investment Management as an associate portfolio manager. From 2007 to 2015, she was at Matthews Asia, most recently as a portfolio manager. From 2005 to 2006, Inbok served as an Analyst and Technology Specialist at T. Stone Corp., a private equity firm in Seoul, South Korea. From 2004 to 2005, she was a research engineer for Samsung SDI in Seoul. Inbok received both a B.A. and Masters in Materials Science and Engineering from Seoul National University. Shuntaro Takeuchi is a Portfolio Manager at Matthews Asia and co-manages the firm's Japan Strategy. Prior to joining the firm in 2016 as a Senior Research Analyst, he was an Executive Director for Japan Equity Sales at UBS Securities LLC in New York. Beginning in 2003, he worked on both Japanese Equity and International Equity Sales at UBS Japan Securities, based in Tokyo, and held the position of Special Situations Analyst from 2006 to 2008, and Head of International Equity Sales from 2009 to 2013. Prior to joining Matthews Asia in 2011, Vivek was an Investment Manager on the Global Emerging Markets team of Pictet Asset Management in London. While at Pictet, he also worked on the firm's Global Equities team, managing Japan and Asia ex-Japan markets. Before earning his MBA from the London Business School in 2006, Vivek was a Business Systems Officer at The World Bank and served as a Consultant at Arthur Andersen Business Consulting and Citicorp Infotech Industries. Sherwood Zhang is a Portfolio Manager at Matthews Asia. He manages the firm's China Dividend Strategy and co-manages the Asia Dividend and Asia ex Japan Dividend Strategies. Prior to joining Matthews Asia in 2011, Sherwood was an analyst at Passport Capital from 2007 to 2010, where he focused on such industries as property and basic materials in China as well as consumer-related sectors. Before earning his MBA in 2007, Sherwood served as a Senior Treasury Officer for Hang Seng Bank in Shanghai and Hong Kong, and worked as a Foreign Exchange Trader at Shanghai Pudong Development Bank in Shanghai. Wei Zhang is a Portfolio Manager at Matthews Asia and co-manages the Asia Total Return Bond Strategy. Prior to joining the firm in 2015, he earned an MBA from Columbia University. From 2008 to 2012, Wei worked as an analyst at Bluecrest Capital Management, evaluating fundamental investments in equity and credit, with a focus on industrials, basic materials and energy sector opportunities. From 2007 to 2008, he was also an analyst with GF Capital Management, where he performed in-depth fundamental research, built and maintained financial models and participated in acquisition contact negotiations. Prior to joining Matthews Asia in 2013, he was a Research Analyst with Artisan Partners on the Global Value Team, responsible for covering pan-Asia stocks across all industries. Before joining Artisan in 2005, Beini spent three years as a senior product analyst at Oracle Corp. He received an M.S. in Computer Science from the University of California, Berkeley and a B.A. in Applied Mathematics from Harvard College. He is fluent in Mandarin.
