William J. Hackett
Chief Executive Officer
William Hackett is Chief Executive Officer at Matthews Asia and President of the Matthews Asia Funds. Bill joined the firm in 2007 as President and has served as CEO since 2009. He has been a Matthews Asia Funds Trustee since 2015. Prior to joining Matthews Asia, Bill was a partner with the global investment management practice of Deloitte & Touche LLP where he led the U.S. Pacific Southwest investment management practice. During his tenure at Deloitte, Bill had several international assignments, including leading the firm’s Asia Pacific investment management practice, based out of Tokyo. He was also posted to Luxembourg to focus on Deloitte’s Pan-European and offshore investment management clients. He joined Deloitte in New York in 1990. Bill received a B.S. in Accounting from the University of Scranton. He is a Certified Public Accountant (inactive) and also serves as a member of the Investment Company Institute Board of Governors.
Robert J. Horrocks, PhD*
Chief Investment Officer and Portfolio Manager
Robert Horrocks is Chief Investment Officer and Portfolio Manager at Matthews Asia and has been a Matthews Asia Funds Trustee since 2018. He manages the firm's Asian Growth and Income Strategy and co-manages the Asia Dividend and Asia ex Japan Dividend Strategies. As Chief Investment Officer, Robert oversees the firm's investment process and investment professionals and sets the research agenda for the investment team. Before joining Matthews Asia in 2008, Robert was Head of Research at Mirae Asset Management in Hong Kong. From 2003 to 2006, Robert served as Chief Investment Officer for Everbright Pramerica in China, establishing its quantitative investment process. He started his career as a Research Analyst with WI Carr Securities in Hong Kong before moving on to spend eight years working in several different Asian jurisdictions for Schroders, including stints as Country General Manager in Taiwan, Deputy Chief Investment Officer in Korea and Designated Chief Investment Officer in Shanghai. Robert earned his PhD in Chinese Economic History from Leeds University in the United Kingdom, and is fluent in Mandarin.
David A. Hartley
Chief Financial Officer
David Hartley is Chief Financial Officer at Matthews Asia. Prior to joining Matthews Asia in 2011, he served as Chief Accounting Officer at Invesco Ltd., responsible for corporate accounting and financial reporting to the firm’s Senior Managing Directors and Board of Directors, and all public reporting. David had previously been Chief Financial Officer of Invesco's Institutional and Global divisions and served in a variety of roles at Invesco after joining the firm in 1991. He began his career with KPMG in London in 1982 and five years later joined the firm’s Atlanta office, where he worked as a Senior Manager in the international auditing practice. David received a B.S. in Economics and Accounting from the University of Bristol in the United Kingdom and is a Chartered Accountant.
Lindsay M. Wright
Head of Asia and Global Chief Operating Officer
Lindsay Wright is Head of Asia and Global Chief Operating Officer at Matthews Asia. Based in Hong Kong, Lindsay is responsible for overseeing the firm's business activities in Asia as well as the firm's global operations. Prior to joining Matthews Asia in 2018, she served as a Managing Director, Head of Distribution and Co-Head of Investment Management Asia Pacific for BNY Mellon Investment Management in Hong Kong. Previously, Lindsay was a Managing Director at Invesco Hong Kong. From 2010 to 2015, she was Managing Director and Co-CEO at Harvest Capital Management. She also worked at Deutsche Asset Management as Managing Director, Global Head of Strategy (New York), Head of Asia Pacific Strategy and Business Development (Singapore) and Asia Pacific Chief Operating Officer (Tokyo). Lindsay started her career at Bankers Trust in New Zealand. She received a Bachelor of Commerce in Accountancy from the University of Auckland.
Chief Human Resources Officer
Veronica Minukas is Chief Human Resources Officer at Matthews Asia and is responsible for the firm's strategic approach to human capital management. Prior to joining Matthews Asia in 2018, Veronica was Chief Human Resources Officer and a Partner at Lord Abbett. Previously, she was the Global Head of Human Resources and Senior Managing Director for Nikko Asset Management based in Tokyo. From 1994 to 2007, Veronica held several national and global HR management positions with Fidelity Investments in Boston, Salt Lake City, Tokyo and London. Veronica received a B.B.A. from George Washington University.
Global Head of Distribution
Frank Wheeler is Global Head of Distribution at Matthews Asia. He has overall responsibility for the firm's marketing, business development strategy, client services and sales efforts. Prior to joining Matthews Asia in 2013, he served as Executive Vice President, Head of Product and Marketing with Nuveen Investments in Chicago. Previously, he was Head of Distribution for FAF Advisors/ First American Funds in Minneapolis. From 2000 to 2006, Frank held several senior roles at Merrill Lynch Investment Managers in both New York and in Tokyo, including Managing Director, Chief Marketing Officer for Asia Pacific. Earlier in his career, he held a variety of marketing and brand management roles at Morgan Stanley and Procter & Gamble. Frank earned an MBA in Marketing and Finance from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania and received a B.A. in Management Economics and French from Hampden-Sydney College.
Céline L. Colgan
Head of North American Institutional Business
Céline Colgan is Head of North American Institutional Business at Matthews Asia. She is responsible for leading the firm’s North American business development strategy, client services and sales efforts with U.S. and Canadian institutions including endowments, foundations and public and corporate pensions. Prior to joining Matthews Asia in 2014, she served as Chief Business Officer of The Presidio Group’s Outsourced Investment Office where she was responsible for business development, strategy, marketing communications and client services. Previously, she spent 15 years at Barclays Global Investors/BlackRock where she most recently was a Managing Director and team leader within the U.S. and Canada Institutional Client Group. Throughout her career at BlackRock, Céline was responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with large institutional investors and led a team of seasoned institutional sales and client service professionals. Céline earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in International Business and Finance from the Institut Supérieur de Gestion in Paris, and is fluent in French.
Jonathan D. Schuman
Head of Global Business Development
Jonathan Schuman is Head of Global Business Development at Matthews Asia. He is responsible for leading the firm’s international business development strategy, developing relationships with key distribution partners and directing the firm’s global sales efforts. Prior to joining Matthews Asia in 2010, Jonathan was a Managing Director at PineBridge Investments (formerly AIG Investments) in Tokyo, responsible for institutional sales and client relations, product development, marketing and RFP functions for AIG’s third-party investment management business in Japan. He also served as Assistant General Counsel for Legal and Government Affairs for AIG Companies, Japan and Korea. Jonathan earned a J.D. from Harvard Law School, a M.A.L.D from The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy and a B.A. in Asian Studies from Williams College. He has served as Co-Chair of the Financial Services Committee at the American Chamber of Commerce in Japan, and is fluent in Japanese.
David B. Scott, CFA
Head of Strategy and Investment Solutions
David Scott is Head of Strategy and Investment Solutions at Matthews Asia. He is responsible for development, communication and execution of the company’s long-term strategic vision and goals, identifying growth opportunities and leading the evaluation of a wide range of strategic initiatives. David is also responsible for the management of the company’s existing suite of investment strategies and products, and the evaluation and development of new investment strategies.Prior to joining Matthews Asia in 2014, David was Vice President of Corporate Strategy at T. Rowe Price and before that, Vice President at Lovell Minnick Partners where he focused on private equity investments in financial services companies. Earlier in his career, he was a Financial Institutions M&A Investment Banker at Berkshire Capital and an Industry Consultant at Strategic Insight, a mutual fund research firm. David received his MBA from Harvard Business School and his Bachelor of Science from Bates College. He is a CFA charterholder.
Head of Global Marketing
Mark Lidstone is Head of Global Marketing at Matthews Asia, responsible for the firm’s marketing activities, brand building efforts and shareholder services. Prior to joining Matthews Asia in 2012, he worked at Aberdeen Asset Management in Toronto where he served as Head of Marketing for the firm’s Canadian operations. Prior to this, Mark headed Aberdeen’s marketing efforts out of Hong Kong in support of sales objectives across the institutional, retail and private bank distribution channels. He also spent over seven years at Credit Suisse Asset Management and held a variety of marketing and communications roles, leading teams out of both London and Hong Kong. Mark earned an MBA from Warwick Business School in the U.K and received a B.Sc. in Biology with Business Studies from the University of London.
J. David Kast
Global Head of Risk and Compliance
David Kast is Global Head of Risk and Compliance at Matthews Asia and is responsible for the firm’s operational risk management and regulatory compliance activities. David also serves as head of the firm’s Enterprise Risk and Compliance Committee. Prior to joining Matthews Asia in 2017, David spent nearly 20 years with Goldman Sachs Asset Management in a variety of compliance roles overseeing Asia, the U.S., Europe, the Middle East and Africa. David was most recently a Managing Director of Goldman Sachs Asset Management’s U.S. Compliance team in charge of several U.S. offices. Previously, David worked at the Prudential Insurance Company of America as a Compliance Officer for Prudential Capital Group. He received a B.A. in International Relations from St. Joseph's University.
David W. Monroe
David Monroe is General Counsel at Matthews Asia. Prior to joining the firm in 2014, he served as Senior Managing Director, Chief Legal Officer and Co-Chair of the Global Risk Control Group for Nikko Asset Management Co., Ltd. in Tokyo. During his seven years at Nikko Asset Management, David was responsible for leading the firm’s global legal and compliance divisions during a period of rapid expansion of the firm’s footprint throughout Asia-Pacific. Prior to that, David led the legal and compliance functions for several large asset management group companies in Japan, including Fidelity Investments Japan, where he was the firm’s Chief Legal Officer and Chief Compliance Officer. David served approximately six years as Chair of the American Chamber of Commerce Japan Investment Management Committee and is a past winner of the Japan In-House Counsel of the Year Award presented by Asian Legal Business. He received a B.S. in Business Administration with a Concentration in East Asian Languages and Culture from the University of Kansas and a J.D. from Columbia University School of Law.

James Walter is Head of Investment Operations at Matthews Asia. He joined the firm in 1996, and has built his investment career at Matthews Asia. James received a B.S. in Business Administration from John Carroll University.
John P. McGowan
Head of Fund Administration
John McGowan joined Matthews Asia in 2004 and is Head of Fund Administration. Prior to joining Matthews Asia, John served as Chief Operating Officer at Forward Funds and ReFlow LLC, a mutual fund liquidity solution provider. Previously, he was a Director of Client Services at PFPC Global Fund Services. John has more than 20 years of financial services experience including positions at M&T Bank, First Pacific Advisors Inc. and Boston Financial Data Services, Inc. He is a member of the Executive Committee and Board of Governors of the Mutual Fund Education Alliance. John received a B.A. in Marketing from Clarkson University.
Head of Global Human Resources and Office Administration
Cheryl Fung is Head of Global Human Resources and Office Administration at Matthews Asia. She joined the firm in 2008, and is responsible for leading Matthews Asia’s HR efforts. Cheryl has more than 18 years of experience in the field of human resources, and most recently was the HR Director for CollabNet Inc., a Bay Area technology company. Prior to this, Cheryl spent five years as Vice President of Human Resources with Morgan Stanley’s Online and Individual Investor Group in San Francisco. She also spent four years as the Business and Administration Manager with the Investment Banking division of Goldman Sachs in Singapore. Cheryl speaks both Mandarin and Cantonese fluently.
